A bit about me
I’m Mano, a Senior Survey Manager at Yonder Data Solutions. In navigating the dynamic world of market research for over a decade, I’ve honed my skills in both qualitative and quantitative research. My work has spanned international borders, collaborating with UK and French market research agencies, and I’ve lead diverse and fascinating projects ranging from focus groups to in-depth interviews.
The art of improving questionnaires
At Yonder Data Solutions, we’re passionate about adding value to each and every questionnaire that we script for our clients, infusing each questionnaire with precision and insight. Our eye for detail consistently achieves best in class results each time.
We meticulously review structures, propose changes, improve question and answer clarity, and advise on different methodologies for certain questions to produce top quality results. We also strive for mobile-optimised layouts, which may involve ranking questions to provide better insights than standard multiple-choice questions, or we add in ‘Don’t know’ or ‘Prefer not to say’ options for more nuanced responses.
Just another day in the life of a Survey Manager
Each day brings its own unique set of tasks. No two days are the same, and that’s just how we like it! We tend to juggle:
- Monitoring live project samples (trackers).
- Verifying scripters’ links for correct filters and questionnaire accuracy.
- Ensuring the survey layout is optimised for all devices, especially smartphones and tablets.
- After a soft launch, we collaborate with scripters to validate data functionality, enhancing the preliminary quality check before the data processing team sets up their tables.
- We conduct ongoing quality assessments during fieldwork, filtering out subpar or irrelevant open-ended responses.
Quality assurance, the Yonder Data Solutions way
Quality assurance isn’t just a process; it’s part of our ethos. In the survey management team, we blend automated and manual checks to provide the best quality data for our clients.
By including multiple layers of templated quality check questions, we ensure respondents are truly paying attention to each statement in our surveys by using trap questions (e.g., including shapes, numbers, or animals). To combat the rising threat of ‘survey farms’ and bots, we collaborate with our scripting team to set up honeypot trap questions, which are only viewable to bots, and will automatically screen them out when engaged with.
We also manually check on speeders and straight liners and review open-ended answers.
Unsatisfactory responses are reported to our panel team, resulting in a temporary suspension for the respondent, and when necessary, a permanent exclusion.

I take immense pride in our top-tier services and the unparalleled response level of our proprietary panels. As a Survey Manager, it’s great being able to consistently rely on the quality of our panels for every single project. But in my experience, what truly sets us apart is our nurturing team culture, where we celebrate each other’s victories and foster a sense of belonging within the Yonder family.
